Beatrice Cunegatti

Cassation Lawyer (attorney-at-law admitted before Italian Supreme Court) and contract professor of Copyright at the University of Milan “La Statale”.

Member of the Bologna Bar Association (Italy).

Founder and owner of the law firm since 1998.

With the objective of combining her passion for the exercise of the professional activity with the scientific study of Information Technology topics, after graduating in Law from the University of Bologna, in 1999 she obtained a PhD in Legal informatics and Informatics law with a dissertation on the protection of multimedia works.

Some years later she started to collaborate with the University of Milan “La Statale” where, since 2001 (to today) she has been in charge of teaching Copyright at the Master’s program in Publishing.

Since 2011 (to today) she has also taught Copyright and data protection in digital publishing at the Master’s program in Computer science of text - electronic edition, of the University of Siena.

She has also maintained a close relationship with the University of Bologna, where she is a subject expert in Internet law and Internet and social media law, after having held teaching positions in Intellectual Property in the relatively new post-graduate courses dedicated to new technologies, the Master’s program in Legal information technology and New technologies law (from 2000 to 2002) and the Master’s program in Free software science and technology (from 2004 to 2010).

At the University of Rome “La Sapienza” she was in charge of teaching what, at that time (academic year 2001/02), were absolutely pioneering topics in the academic landscape, with lectures in Web Law at the Master’s program in Management and marketing of e-service companies, Master’s degree program in Management and marketing of digital television companies and Master’s degree program in Management and planning for publishing and multimedia communication.

Significant opportunities for in-depth study and challenge were in the same years the teaching in Privacy and Employment Relationship at the Master’s degree program in Law of person and new technologies of the University of Rome under the direction of Professor Stefano Rodotà (academic year 2002/03), and the teaching in Information Technology Law at the Master’s program in Management of technological innovation in public administration, Presidency of the Council of Ministers, School of Public Administration (academic year 2001/02).

The scientific and academic commitment is however only one of the guiding lines of her professional education.

Already during the three years of the PhD program, she founded the first law firm dedicated to Information Technology and Intellectual Property in Bologna in 1998, to which the Milan office was added in 2011.

In addition to legal advice offered to Italian and multinational companies, she added the experience of statutory auditor of joint stock companies and participation in due diligence activities for the analysis of IP assets in the merger and corporate transformation phase, which led her to tackle directly the dynamics of complex companies.

In litigations in court in favour of right holders, she also successfully addressed, for Italian and foreign Clients, the international aspects of copyright, as well as of anti-piracy, related to the use of the most innovative information and telematic technologies.

She pleads at the bar before Judicial Authorities, section of the Companies Court and Data Protection Authorities; she has been qualified at the defense before the Court of Cassation since 2014.

She is a member of AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property).

She is author of several monographic studies, essays and articles (list of publications).
